Intellisource is seeking a Technical Writer for our industrial equipment business partner’s corporate office in Broomfield, CO. The technical writer will be responsible for writing, creating and editing various types of technical documentation, including but not limited to installation manuals, product instructions and user guides; entering the content inside a complex technical documentation user interface; working closely with technical writers and other cross-functional teams in the U.S. and Germany; gathering requirements and recommending revisions or changes in scope; proofreading documents for accuracy and consistent terminology; attaching line drawings, photographs, diagrams and charts to illustrate material; coordinating translation services; troubleshooting issues with software functionality; and storing technical documentation according to ISO and departmental standards.
Position Overview:
  • Writes new and modifies existing technical documentation for a diverse offering of products
  • Explains scientific and technical ideas in simple language; writes clear and concise policies and procedures for a diverse range of intended audiences such as engineers, architects, contractors and homeowners
  • Works with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of product requirements; analyzes existing content; recommends revisions or changes in scope, format and content; ensures final output is consistent with established guidelines; collects approvals
  • Continually and proactively demonstrates strong leadership skills in motivating and coaching others on how technical terminology should be written
  • Proofreads technical documentation for accuracy, completeness and consistent terminology; ensures documentation meets editorial, governmental and legal specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style
  • Communicates approved content changes to the Technical Documentation Specialist, Product Data Specialist, and other internal team members to ensure accurate technical information is presented online, in print and within PIM
  • Coordinates translation services
  • Controls technical content, line drawings, photographs, diagrams and charts necessary to properly illustrate material in a complex technical documentation user interface
  • Develops proficiency in system requirements, limitations and capabilities through extensive training with cross-functional teams; determines layout of U.S. technical documentation, text and pictures, based on technical writing and system experience; troubleshoots and resolves issues with software functionality; understands software requirements; performs adjustments; documents system procedures on the Wiki
  • Ensures that the system is the most accurate location of technical information; enters content swiftly and accurately; challenges content additions/changes and recommends proper wording based on technical writing expertise; ensures final output is consistent with established guidelines; collects approvals
  • Responsible for following the ISO’d process for technical literature from creation to publication; maintains records and files of work and revisions
  • Must stay abreast to technical communications trends, product capabilities and legal requirements;  review competitive technical literature; and lead initiatives to improve existing technical documentation  
Job Requirements:
  • Strong working knowledge of PC operating systems and Microsoft and Adobe Programs
  • Creative Suite experience not required but preferred  
  • Knowledge of grammar and style
  • Aptitude for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize work
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Skill in working and interacting with personnel at all organizational levels
  • Ability to communicate ideas visually, verbally and in writing
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communication, Technical Writing or related discipline
  • 3 - 5 years of related experience in the creation of print and online media, preferably in a technical field with an emphasis on technical documentation
